Added: 16 November 2020
The stunning new Suzuki is due to go on sale across the UK in November. The Suzuki cross is priced from £45,599, the Japanese brand’s first hybrid vehicle is cool and packed with features.
The Suzuki Across is repackaged Toyota RAV4 and cements the relationship between Toyota and Suzuki.
The exterior changes to the vehicle aren’t excessive. The badge has, of course, changed. Alongside that, you will notice some projector LED headlamps, and minor tweaks to the taillights too. There are new front and rear bumpers too. Another nice touch is the new set of 19-inch alloy wheels, and you can choose from six different paint finishes.
The interior has had some exciting additions and changes, that lean into a fresh feel.
The Suzuki Across now features a multifunction steering wheel, a nine-inch touch screen infotainment system which offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The storage that a car has is also essential for making it comfortable and clean. More storage bins and cupholders are within the cabin, and there are several electrical accessory socket mounts in the massive 490-litre boot.
Powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain, comprising of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Coupled with an 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor mounted on each axle.
This gives this system and output of 189bhp and 270Nm of torque. Suzuki claims that this gives them a 0-62mph in 6 seconds. Not only that but it will produce general 22g/km of CO2, and this puts it firmly in the lowest UK road tax bracket. The Suzuki will get you up to 47 miles on electric power alone. The Across’s powertrain has an independent rear electric motor. This electric motor can vary the torque between the front and rear axles in any combination of ratios ranging between 100:0 and 20:80.
The Across PHEV powertrain also comes with a range of driver profile options. This allows the driver to choose either hybrid or fully-electric mode. There is also an option where you can hold the battery’s charge level for use later in the drive. Not only that but there is a battery charger mode which can top-up the battery pack, and negates the need to visit a charging station.
The Suzuki Across also has a Trail setting. This trail setting gives the driver the ability to manipulate the vehicles braking systems and give an incredible performance off-road. The Trail system is designed to automatically send power to the wheels that have the most grip and brakes the wheels that are losing traction. At the same time, it will adjust the throttle and gearbox shift pattern.
Safety is a big feature for the Suzuki Across, including pre-collision assist, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and road sign assist too. It also comprises a rear cross-traffic alert system and an active cruise control system. This can automatically control the SUV’s braking and throttle in stop-start traffic.
