New Renegade

Are you thinking about purchasing a hybrid SUV? If so, you might be interested to learn that Jeep has announced they will launch a plug-in hybrid Renegade in 2020. The American brand is known for providing high-quality off-road vehicles but has recently pushed towards going green.

The new vehicle is expected to have the same build as the Fiat 500x. It will likely pair multiple electric motors with a petrol engine. This will ensure that the car provides the four-wheel-drive SUV that these vehicles are known for and will be ideal for average length journeys, using just electric power.

Exploring the New Jeep Renegade

The Renegade will be titled the Renegade PHEV and will have pre-production examples throughout this year. The car will be produced at the Melfi plant in South Italy. The new plant has been built on a £176 million investment and will deliver the support necessary for the latest powertrain tech included in these vehicles.

By 2018, 742,000 Renegades had already been produced in Italy. The company is confident that the new production of the PHEV renegade will continue the success that they have found setting up operations in the country and puts them in a key position to export easily to the rest of Europe including the UK.

A New Future

This isn’t Jeep’s only investment in the EV market either. The Renegade is actually only one of the thirty vehicles that will be launched on the market with eco-friendly options through to 2022.

This isn’t surprising as the company suggested that electrification would be a key point of their business plan from 2018 to 2022. The aim of the new initiative is to ensure that Jeep does match emissions and economy legislation on an international level. The business is just one of the many brands that are under more pressure than ever to go green.

This isn’t just about government guidelines either. Customers are demanding greener vehicles and any brand that doesn’t start focusing on this option could start to see dwindling sales over the next few years. PHEVs provide buyers with budget-friendly ways to save on fuel and reduce their carbon footprint. They are expected to take a serious foothold in the market over the next decade.

Going Green

As for Jeep, the company is keen to announce that the Renegade PHEV is their next step for electrification. The full plan will include 12 electric propulsion systems that will be produced throughout the new several years. The company is also aiming to deliver on a £7.9 billion investment plan.

Through 2022, the company is keen to produce a range of different electric vehicles including full hybrids, mild hybrids and plug-in hybrids. The company is also aiming to completely phase out diesel propulsion engines in passenger cars by as early as 2020.
