What Service Does My Car Need?
Added: 26 July 2017
Getting your car serviced is an important part of being a vehicle owner. You need to be sure that your car is running smoothly and is safe to be out on the roads. Check out our guide on what service your car might need.
Service for drivers with high mileage
If you drive for long distances, for example your job requires you to cover a lot of ground in a short space of time you need to get your vehicle checked on a more regular basis. Your tyres and brake pads will wear down quicker and you’ll find your fluid levels under the bonnet will need topping up more regularly too. A service every 6 months or 6,000 miles, whichever comes first, will help keep your car running properly on those long journeys and prevent you from sitting on the hard shoulder of the motorway waiting for recovery!
Even if you don’t cover tens of thousands of miles a year it’s still important to get your car booked in for a full service once a year. A service will check all the vital components of your car and the garage will recommend any repairs or new parts that need fitting. During the service your tyres, brake pads, fluid levels and other parts of your engine will be checked to see if they are working properly.
Booking an MOT
For cars that are 3 years or older an MOT needs to be completed every 12 months. The MOT is designed to make sure your car is fully roadworthy. We’d recommend checking over your car before taking it in for the MOT and get a service booked if you have any concerns. Getting your car serviced before the MOT will ensure that everything is running smoothly and there shouldn’t then be a reason for your car to fail!
