The Subaru WRX Sti - today & yesterday's versions
Added: 23 November 2017
The Subaru Impreza was arguably one of the most popular cars of the late 90's. It took the Car market by storm, producing a generation of petrolheads who even today are still ragging around in their well-kept price and joy.
Recently, Subaru have released a revamped Impreza model and it's looking set to revive that initial love from the diehard Impreza fans (and bring in new ones!).
The old school Impreza WRX STi
After first being manufactured in 1992, the Subaru Impreza WRX STi quickly rose to be a very popular car in and around the UK. It's larger than average engine size and futuristic Japanese design was attractive to drivers, who responded to its raw power, agility and pulsing engine sounds. It quickly made a name for itself as a Maverick of the car industry!
The WRX model came with a wide variety of engine sizes ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 litres, there was a lot of choice in terms of the power of your car, however, they all included a 5 speed gearbox and hovered around the 230-250 bhp mark, this gave the Impreza potential to branch out into motorsports as well - it soon made a name for itself in the rally car scene by winning the 1995 World Rally championships with none other than Colin McRae behind the wheel. One of the original Impreza's most redeeming qualities was that there was no messing around, it gave you exactly what it had been advertised as - an exceptionally fun car with innovative design.
Reviving a classic, the 2017 Subaru WRX STi
Arriving early in 2018 is the new and improved version that old classic, the reborn Subaru WRX STi.
Subaru has really tried to replicate the initial seduction that the first edition Impreza carried with it leaving key, loveable aspects of the original car and simply giving them a modern spin. The new WRX STi model features some amazing systems to keep you entertained whilst you drive it, take the SI-Drive (Subaru Intelligent Drive) system featured in the WRX STi for instance.
Meanwhile, under the bonnet, there is a turbocharged 2.5-litre engine that really packs a punch with a whopping 296 bhp! To counteract the immense power there is a track-tuned aluminium suspension giving the driver ultimate control when taking sharp corners.
With added speed comes added danger - but Subaru has counteracted much of this with the application of some much-desired modern technology. The new braking systems include 17 inch disks and 4 piston calibres giving you immense braking power and you'll definitely need it with this car! The rear spoiler is not just for show either, it provides extreme downforce helping the car to stick to the road with ease. As well as all of these major changes, Subaru has included a fair amount of "quality of life" changes, including access and push to start system and SI-Drive (SUBARU Intelligent Drive). The intelligent drive system allows the driver to choose between 3 different driving settings. You have the choice between sporty settings and those more suited to fuel economy, taking vehicle performance to a whole new level!
Altogether the WRX STi's revamped model looks to be a mean machine and Subaru have really encapsulated the original feel of the Impreza, successfully carrying it through to the newer model.
