Subaru to Launch First Electric Vehicle in 2020
Added: 28 May 2019
Scotland has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to environmental awareness, sustainability and ecological stewardship. In 2017 this was taken one step further with the government’s 2017/2018 legislative program which laid out a strong plan for a greener economy. It came as no surprise to us here at Ian Grieve that electric vehicles were one of the most prominently featured articles on the hugely ambitious 124-page document. We’ve been bringing high quality electric and hybrid vehicles to our customers across Stirlingshire for some time now. We’ve seen interest and curiosity surrounding more sustainable vehicles build year after year.
We’re proud to work with a number of great brands and we were delighted and filled with excitement when we learned that Subaru will be bringing its first ever all-electric vehicle to the market next year. Some of our customers who are dedicated Subaru aficionados may feel that this has been a long time coming. However, Subaru are...
Happy to be last in the race
There are two kinds of runner. There are those who make a dash to be ahead of their competitors and those who lag back a little to check out the competition before making their way to the front. The move to all-electric may have been a long time coming, (unless you live in japan and had access to its rare Stella) but Subaru have been very open about the fact that they’ve been biding their time watching other makers put the effort into R&D and then improving upon their efforts. As Subaru’s US chief executive told Bloomberg last year- “If we put one out now, we’re going to be competing in the teeth of the market with everybody else… This way, we can let them kind of sort it out, then we can come in.”.
While rival brands seem keen to get as many electric models and variants out as possible, as quickly as possible Subaru would rather be last in the race and do it right.
Which models will get the electric treatment?
Last November Subaru unveiled its new XV (known as the Crosstrek in the US) a PHEV hybrid, but it has been tight lipped about which of its lines will be the first to go all-electric. Nonetheless, it is highly likely that the XV / Crosstrek will be one of the first to make the jump to all-electric. One thing’s for sure, however, we can’t wait to introduce our customers to the new range of all-electric Subaru’s and demonstrate that our consumers needn’t sacrifice performance for a more sustainable drive.
